Client Background
Regal Entertainment Group is the largest movie chain in the United States. In preparation for the acquisition of two smaller movie chains, REG opted to redesign the Web presence in such a way that the transition would be easy for Web users.

The Challenge
REG anticipated that the acquisition and subsequent multi-homing of three formerly divergent Web sites would lead to consumer confusion. My challenge was to create a dynamic Web site intelligent enough to display different content, search options, and teasers based on which URL was used to visit the site. Additionally, REG had had to rely for years on slow, manual updates of their site. I developed a suite of tools that allowed their staff to maintain the divergent branches of the site content with minimal effort.

The Solution
In order to comply with REG's development standards, I learned JSP to build the administrative tools and portions of the public site. To guarantee scalability of this high-traffic site by minimizing the loading of JSP pages, I also utilized a little-used technique of employing programming logic within standard server side includes in standard HTML pages to switch content as needed. The REG Web site was the recipient of a Gold Addy in 2003.

Case Studies

REG's site displays different content depending on which of three sub-brand domains is used to access the site.
